Help
Welcome to the Help page
You may be asking yourself why did I get sent here.
There are 2 major links that sent you here
1- you clicked the help page on any of the NEXT BIBLE pages (this opened a new window or tab, To return just close the window or tab)
2- you clicked on the universal search box and had nothing entered. (If you dont need help just click the back button on your browser to return to your page.)
Both of these events sent you here for help as the developers guessed that a blank in the search box means that you were uncertain as what to do.
For general help we have prepared some video tutorials with some sample screens describing the functionality of the NEXT BIble
For specfic Universal search help you can watch the tutorial or read the text below that explains the functions provided in the search functions
Tutorials- sample screen casts for using the NEXTBIBLE tools
Below are a set of draft videos - they can be launched by clicking the links below (these are audio video files and it may take 30 sec+ to load)
The universal search functions are as follows:
Simple Search
Type any one word to find it in both NETBible texts and notes, in any case.
Ex.: typing lord wil7l show all occurences of LORD, Lord, and lord.
Hint: Double-clicking any word will give the same result.
Multi Word Search
Type two or more words in any order to find all co-occurences of those words in the same verses/note items.
Ex.: fish bread
Phrase Search
If the word(s) you are looking for contain spaces, or you want to search them in the exact order, type them inside quotation marks (").
Ex.: "Jesus Christ"
Operators To refine your search, use operators:
AND (&, +)
grace AND salvation will find all co-occurences of both grace and salvation in the same verses/note items. (The same as Multi Word Search, but come in handy when you want to combine operators.)
OR (|)
Abram OR Abraham will find all verses/note items contain either Abram or Abraham.
NOT (-)
fish NOT bread will find all occurences of fish without bread in the same verse or note item.
ALL
ALL faith hope love is a shortcut of faith AND hope AND love. This is the default behavior of searching.
ANY
ANY faith hope love is a shortcut of faith OR hope OR love.
To expand your search, use wildcards:
"?" is a placeholder for exactly one letter
Ex.: love? will search for loved, loves and all five-lettered words starting with love.
Ex.: Ab*am will search for all words starting with Ab and ending with am, like Abram, Abraham, Abinoam, etc.
