This is the record of the genealogy ¹  of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whom ¹  Jesus was born, who is called Christ. ² 

Now the birth of Jesus Christ happened this way. While his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came together, ¹  she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.

She will give birth to a son and you will name him ¹  Jesus, ²  because he will save his people from their sins.”

but did not have marital relations ¹  with her until she gave birth to a son, whom he named ²  Jesus.

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem ¹  in Judea, in the time ²  of King Herod, ³  wise men ⁴  from the East came to Jerusalem ⁵ 

He came to a town called Nazareth ¹  and lived there. Then what had been spoken by the prophets was fulfilled, that Jesus ²  would be called a Nazarene. ³ 

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River. ¹ 

So Jesus replied ¹  to him, “Let it happen now, ²  for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John ³  yielded ⁴  to him.

After ¹  Jesus was baptized, just as he was coming up out of the water, the ²  heavens ³  opened ⁴  and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove ⁵  and coming on him.

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness ¹  to be tempted by the devil.

Jesus said to him, “Once again it is written: ‘You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’” ¹ 

Then Jesus said to him, “Go away, ¹  Satan! For it is written: ‘You are to worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” ² 

Now when Jesus ¹  heard that John had been imprisoned, ²  he went into Galilee.

From that time Jesus began to preach this message: ¹  “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

Jesus ¹  went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, ²  preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of disease and sickness among the people.

When ¹  Jesus finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed by his teaching,

Then Jesus said to him, “See that you do not speak to anyone, ¹  but go, show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering ²  that Moses commanded, ³  as a testimony to them.” ⁴ 

Jesus ¹  said to him, “I will come and heal him.”

When ¹  Jesus heard this he was amazed and said to those who followed him, “I tell you the truth, ²  I have not found such faith in anyone in Israel!
